FILMGRO Driving Academy
The FILMGRO DRIVING ACADEMY, managed by the SA FILM Academy, is a free driving licence programme created to remove a major barrier to employment in the film, television, and digital media industries.
Access to a driver’s licence is often essential for work in the industry, yet many talented individuals from historically disadvantaged communities lack the financial means or access to accredited training. This initiative exists to change that.
Based at Atlantic Film Studios in the Western Cape Province, the FILMGRO DRIVING ACADEMY was launched by FILMGRO, the SA FILM Academy, Homebrew Films, Gambit Films, Atlantic Film Studios, and Suidooster. With the shared goal of driving skills development, employment, transformation, and diversity across the industry.
Who Can Apply?
If you are a student, trainee, intern, film school student, graduate, alumnus/alumna, or associate pursuing a career in the film, television, or digital media industries, you may apply to join the free FILMGRO DRIVING ACADEMY and work towards obtaining your driver’s licence.

SUZUKI DRIVES GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
What You Need
To qualify, applicants must have:
• A valid learner’s licence
• The ability to attend lessons at Atlantic Film Studios
• A refundable cash deposit of R300 to secure your place
(Returned once you pass your driver’s licence test)
What the Programme Offers
Successful applicants receive:
• Free driving lessons with a fully accredited instructor
• Guidance and support through the official licence testing process
The programme currently benefits students and graduates from AFDA, SAE, CPUT, UWC, UCT and other film schools, as well as secondary and tertiary institutions across South Africa.

Programme Administration
The FILMGRO DRIVING ACADEMY is administered by the SA FILM Academy, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) and Section 18A Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), and an accredited Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) and Training Provider (TP).
